Leeds United in pursuit of Dinamo Zagreb attacker Luka Ivanusec

Leeds United have reignited their bid to sign Dinamo Zagreb and Croatia attacker Luka Ivanusec, according to Germanijak.

The Croatian news outlet reports on their website that Marcelo Bielsa was a “big fan” of the 23-year-old attacking midfielder and wanted to bring him to Elland Road in the January transfer window.

Leeds were reportedly ready to pay up to £12.7million for Ivanusec but the player wasn’t sold on a move due to the Yorkshire club’s relegation fears at the time.

Germanijak now reports that despite Bielsa being sacked and replaced by Jesse Marsch, Leeds still want to sign Ivanusec and are reviving their efforts to sign the Dinamo Zagreb star this summer.

It is understood that Ivanusec would leave Croatian league champions Dinamo for a multi-million figure.

An interesting one

Leeds have been strongly linked with a move for Red Bull Salzburg and USA star Brenden Aaronson, who plays in an attacking midfield role in behind a striker.

Ivanusec also plays in that position while he’s also been known to play out wide on the right [transfermarkt].

According to Germanijak, Ivanusec “is one of the best players in the league, and because of his potential, versatility [and] speed”. He’s also dubbed a “modern player” who can adapt to various tactical systems.

The former Lokomotiva Zagreb star scored five goals and supplied eight assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Dinamo Zagreb this season as they won the Croatian title and starred in the Europa League group stages where they beat West Ham before eventually being knocked out in the next round by Sevilla.

Leeds definitely need to bolster their midfield options in the summer and while a deal for Aaronson looks like it could be done, signing Ivanusec could also make sense.

Leeds are desperately short in the middle of the park and Ivanusec’s versatility means he can cover numerous areas.

It’s no surprise that Bielsa reportedly liked the 10-time Croatia international, who helped his country to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
