Leeds United to release official statement amid Aaronson medical reveal - Fabrizio Romano
Leeds United are set to officially announce the arrival of Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg “soon”, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday night (25 May), the Guardian journalist reported that the 21-year-old USA midfielder is set to join for a fee of £28million.
It is understood that contracts are almost ready while Romano adds that Aaronson’s medical “will take place this week”.
Romano gives credit to MLS journalist Tom Bogert, who also reported on Wednesday that Aaronson has already arrived in the UK and will have his medical on Thursday (26 May).
While this is a deal that we all wanted to happen in January and has been in the pipeline since, we have to give a lot of credit to Victor Orta for being able to get a move done so quickly this summer.
It seems as though everything was in place already for Leeds to sign Aaronson if they avoided relegation.
After some poor results in the final weeks of the season, there would have no doubt been some worry as to whether a deal would get done as relegation fears swept over Elland Road.
But that last-day win over Brentford has not only ensured Premier League football for a third consecutive season at Leeds, but it has also ensured that Aaronson will join as one of the most expensive signings ever in West Yorkshire.
Aaronson did brilliantly at Red Bull Salzburg this season as they won the Austrian league title and also reached the last-16 of the Champions League.
Bayern Munich knocked Salzburg out but Aaronson left his mark, supplying assists for goals in both legs of the 8-2 aggregate defeat.
He’s only 21 and we’re sure that he’ll become everyone’s new favourite player at Leeds United.
