Leeds United in for Tanganga as likely Millwall transfer fee shared
Leeds United are preparing for their return to the Premier League after storming to the Championship title this past season.
Daniel Farke’s side topped the league with 100 points, but it’s still suggested that they’ll have to invest heavily in new players to stand any chance of avoiding relegation straight back down to the second tier.
With that in mind, Leeds fans will be excited to hear of developments with one of their transfer targets in Millwall gem Japhet Tanganga.

Leeds target Tanganga has release clause in his contract
Leeds are one of a handful of Premier League clubs looking to sign Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga in this summer’s transfer window.
The pacey centre-half has been on Daniel Farke’s radar for a while, although sources suggested that Burnley and Sunderland are also considering making a bid for his services.
If Leeds do make a move for the 26-year-old, who they are said to have been tracking for a while, they will be able to get him on the cheap.
That’s due to a release clause in his Millwall contract which is less than £2million, according to a new report by GiveMeSport (5 June).
Tanganga has Premier League experience, having been raised from Tottenham’s youth academy. He made 50 appearances for Spurs, but was released last summer and signed by Millwall on a free transfer.
The Englishman was a colossal force in the Lions’ defence and would provide much-needed cover for Leeds at centre-half.

Leeds need a statement signing
Leeds did fantastically well to top the Championship with 100 points this season, scoring 95 goals in the process.
However, the general sentiment is that they’ll only be spending one season in the big time before dropping back down to the second tier.
Championship final standings 2024-25 | Points |
Leeds United (P) | 100 |
Burnley (P) | 100 |
Sheffield United | 90 |
Sunderland (P) | 76 |
Coventry City | 69 |
Bristol City | 68 |
This is largely due to the paltry performance of promoted teams in the Premier League over the last two seasons.
All of the previous six promoted sides have dropped back down with a whimper, suggesting that the gap between the Championship and the Premier League is larger than ever.
Leeds needs a big-name signing to show people that the club means business. A name that can change the discourse around Elland Road and inspire other players to up their performance.
Jack Grealish has been linked with a move to Leeds. It’s not clear how likely that move is to materialise, but a player of that calibre would give the fans hope that they’re not in the Premier League just to make up the numbers.
