Leeds United ‘in discussions’ over offering Sam Byram a deal after impressing during pre-season

Leeds United are in discussions over offering defender Sam Byram a deal after he has impressed during pre-season, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper reported online on 3 August that the Whites are contemplating whether to hand the 29-year-old a contract after spending the past few weeks on trial at Elland Road.

It said the decision will come down to the Leeds academy product proving his fitness to head of medicine and performance Rob Price and Daniel Farke as the start of the new season gets underway at the weekend.

Makes sense

It makes sense for Leeds to take their time on this one after Byram has been plagued with a number of injuries in recent years and they can’t afford to be signing someone that isn’t going to be available most weeks.

The right-back has played three games for the Whites during pre-season after he left Norwich City following the expiration of his contract at the end of the last campaign.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claims he has impressed on and off the pitch during his time at Thorp Arch and hasn’t suffered any injury concerns during his time at the club.

While Leeds won’t be in a rush to sign him up with the transfer deadline still a number of weeks away, they only have until 4 August to agree on terms if they want to have him available for the opening game at home to Cardiff City on 5 August.

It looks as though there’s a good chance Byram could make the move back to Elland Road after leaving for West Ham seven years ago and he would add great Championship experience to the side ahead of the upcoming season.

In other Leeds United news, one exit-linked star has told his agent he would rather stay at Elland Road than join PL club.
