Leeds United in advanced talks to sign Djed Spence as Tottenham loan-to-buy agreement on the cards

Leeds United are in advanced talks to sign Djed Spence on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Ryan Taylor.

The Daily Express journalist tweeted on 29 August that the Whites are frontrunners in the race to sign the Spurs right-back and are prepared to cover his wages.

He said the Premier League side are looking to offload the 23-year-old, with a potential deal with Leeds including an option-to-buy or obligation clause included.

Quality

If Leeds can land a deal for Spence during this window, that could well be a quality addition to their side as they look to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League.

The defender had an excellent spell on loan with Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough as he played a major role in helping them book their place back to the top flight via the playoffs in the 2021/22 season.

The right-back scored three goals and laid on five assists for Forest across that campaign to prove he can be a top player at Championship level.

Leeds United

His form for Steve Cooper’s side, while predominantly playing as a wing-back, led to Spurs signing him last summer for a deal that could have potentially reached up to £20million if certain clauses were met.

But his opportunities with the North London club have been extremely limited, having made just six appearances last season before heading out on loan to Ligue 1 side Rennes in January, with a move to West Yorkshire now potentially on the cards.
