Leeds United ‘hope in new striker search’ as Celtic transfer twist emerges
Leeds United hope Southampton change their mind about selling Cameron Archer late in the winter transfer window, according to Ben Jacobs.
The GiveMeSport journalist shared on his personal X account (1 February) that the Whites are focused on singing the 23-year-old striker.
But the Peacocks have to wait for the Saints to reconsider letting the striker leave before the 3 February deadline.
Daniel Farke’s team have also been linked with Sevilla centre-forward Kelechi Iheanacho [SCORENigeria, 23 January], but Celtic have now opened talks for him in a transfer twist.
“Celtic have opened talks with Sevilla for Kelechi Iheanacho,” Jacobs wrote. “Loan with a potential option to buy discussed. Iheanacho has several options.
“Leeds still focused on Cameron Archer and hoping Southampton change their mind on allowing him to leave.”
Leeds United desperate for Cameron Archer transfer
The West Yorkshire outfit seem desperate to add more depth to their attacking ranks before the transfer deadline.
While Joel Piroe has been the German manager’s first-choice number nine at Elland Road, there seems to be a lack of quality backing the Dutch forward in the squad – even accounting for the Cardiff City thumping.
Mateo Joseph was given several opportunities to lead the line at the start of the season but has failed to convince many supporters, albeit he did register against the Bluebirds.
Leeds United have also been unable to rely on Patrick Bamford this season, with Farke evidently leaving him out of his plans.

The Elland Road faithful expect their team to win automatic promotion this season, and the Whites look to be on course to do that.
Injuries could arguably derail the Peacocks’ season, though, and it would be prudent of the hierarchy to bolster the German manager’s squad in the coming days.
Archer has immense experience in the Championship, scoring 18 goals during his stints at Preston North End and Middlesbrough.
Will the Englishman – hailed as a true “fox in the box” by former Preston boss Ryan Lowe – make his way to West Yorkshire? Only time will tell.
