Leeds United will sign Sevilla striker Kelechi Iheanacho in the winter transfer window, according to SCORENigeria.

The news outlet reports (23 January) that the former Manchester City striker will return to English football with the Whites.

It's unknown whether the Peacocks will get the Nigerian ace on loan or a permanent transfer before the 3 February deadline.

The La Liga outfit will be given the freedom to sell Iheanacho after signing Akor Adams.

Kelechi Iheanacho transfer to boost Leeds United promotion hopes

The 28-year-old was part of the Leicester City squad that won promotion to the Premier League last season.

While the Nigerian centre-forward's overall contribution was minimal, he was a key member of the squad during the first half of the previous campaign.

The West Yorkshire club are one of the favourites to get back into the English top flight as they sit top of the table in the Championship.

Leeds have relied heavily on Joel Piroe to lead the attack, but an injury to the Dutch ace could potentially be troublesome as Daniel Farke doesn't seem to have a reliable backup option.

Mateo Joseph has been given his fair share of chances this season, but the Spanish striker still needs to mature before staking his claim as the first-choice number nine.

Patrick Bamford's stature at Elland Road has dwindled over the last few months, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Englishman leave the Whites sooner rather than later.

Iheanacho could not only add depth to the Peacocks' attack but also much-needed experience as they look to return to the Premier League.

It will be interesting to see whether the transfer will materialise.
