Leeds United have not signed Tomas Belmonte

Leeds United have not signed Tomas Belmote despite his Wikipedia page saying he has moved to the Yorkshire club from Lanus.

Earlier this month, ESPN journalist Jorge Baravalle reported on Twitter that Leeds had approached Lanus with an enquiry about the 23-year-old central midfielder.

Since then, Belmonte’s Wikipedia page has been edited to say he plays for Leeds but Golazo Argentino reports that’s not the case with the Argentinean football experts saying: “No. Don’t trust Wiki.”

Don’t trust Wiki

We’re not sure why anyone would think that Belmonte has actually signed for Leeds simply based on what his Wikipedia page is.

If you have the time and the effort, you can change whatever you like on that website and there’s no doubt someone will change his club back to Lanus soon.

Leeds do need a new central midfielder or two this summer.

Marcelo Bielsa lost Pablo Hernandez at the end of last season while Mateusz Klich has struggled to cope with the pace of the Premier League.

Tyler Roberts and Stuart Dallas impressed in the midfield in the second half of last season but in all honesty, there are players out there who could do a better job for Bielsa.

Belmonte is a natural in the middle of the pitch.

The Argentina Under-23 international has scored three goals in 15 appearances for Lanus this year. One of those goals came in April when he netted against Brazilian club Gremio in the Copa Sudamericana.

Belmonte doesn’t sound as though he’d be an expensive addition but Bielsa is yet to sign any fellow Argentines at Elland Road.

He could just be getting linked because of that Argentinean connection.

In other Leeds United news, this player has been left with no option but to quit Elland Road.
