Leeds United favourites to sign Javi Galan despite new Atletico Madrid interest
Leeds United are favourites to sign Huesca left-back Javi Galan this summer amid interest from Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Spanish news outlet claims Galan, 26, is “one of the bargains of the summer” due to his release clause at Huesca being worth just £3.4million due to their relegation from La Liga.
It is understood that Spanish champions Atletico have enquired about the left-back while Sevilla are “very interested”.
However, Mundo Deportivo claims Leeds have “strong interest” and, as it stands, are in pole position to secure the Spanish full-back’s signature for next season.
It’s not very often you get the chance to make a first-team addition for a few million pounds but Galan’s release clause is doing that for Leeds.
While he did suffer relegation from La Liga with Huesca, Galan’s performances lit up Spain’s top-flight last season as he became known as one of the most exciting marauding full-backs on the Iberian peninsula.
The ex-Cordoba left-back made 37 appearances in La Liga last season for Huesca, scoring one goal and supplying two assists.
According to stats by WhoScored, Galan averaged 3.3 dribbles per match in the Spanish top-flight and that number was bettered by just one player – Lionel Messi [4.5].
Galan also averaged 1.3 crosses per match, which ranked him joint-sixth in La Liga alongside Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos, and also averaged 1.1 key passes, which is more than what Spain and Atletico star Koke managed.
Galan clearly poses a serious threat to defences with the way he bombs forward down the left flank and as Marcelo Bielsa likes an attack-minded left-back, we feel as though he would be a superb, cut-price replacement for exit-bound Ezgjan Alioski.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are also winning the race to sign this central midfielder.
