Leeds United eye move for Manchester City wonder James McAtee – report

Leeds United are interested in making a move for Manchester City’s young midfielder James McAtee, according to The Athletic.

The Whites are resigned to losing star midfielder Kalvin Phillips to reigning English champions in the summer transfer window.

As per the latest report, Leeds’ hierarchy are keen on signing McAtee as a part of the deal going which would see their star player move to the Etihad Stadium.

It is believed that Leeds are willing to sign the young midfielder on loan or on a permanent deal, despite Pep Guardiola not wanting to lose him.

The 19-year-old has a contract with Man City till the summer of 2026 and has only represented the club’s senior team on six occasions.

Promising Young Talent

Looking at the numbers of the young Manchester City midfielder, the City fans wouldn’t like to see Guardiola selling such a promising player to a Premier League club.

In the recently concluded under-23 season with the Citizens, the young midfielder scored 18 goals and provided seven assists for the club across 23 appearances. He averaged more than a goal per game in the season [Transfermarkt].

The teenager played 85% of the minutes for the Manchester City u23 team and was involved in 38% of the goals in the recently concluded season.

His preferred position is the attacking midfield but he can also play as a deep-lying playmaker and spread balls for his strikers and wingers.

Even though the main issues for Leeds during the last campaign were in the defensive positions, but the recruitment of someone as creative as McAtee, that too at such a young age, would solve their creativity issues for a long time.
