Leeds United exit clause update emerges as Georginio Rutter closes in on transfer
Any exit clauses included in any Leeds United players’ contracts expired on Thursday 15 August, according to Beren Cross.
The Leeds Live journalist reported on Friday (16 August) that exit clauses will not be a factor for the Whites in the final weeks of the transfer window, with Daniel Farke’s side able to dictate any transfer terms.
This update comes after Brighton activated a £40million exit clause in Georginio Rutter’s contract at Elland Road, with Farke himself confirming the attacker has said his goodbyes ahead of a move to the South Coast [David Ornstein, 14 August].
Will Georginio Rutter exit Leeds United amid Brighton transfer rumours?
While it is a massive blow that the likes of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Rutter have all left Leeds United because of exit clauses, fans can at least rest assured that no more players will leave in this manner ahead of the deadline.
It was perhaps unwise of those at the top of the club to suggest that they could determine the terms of any exits for the entirety of the window, but what is done is done and it is now time for the club and fans to move on.
However, the 49ers do have to put their money where their mouth is. Leeds have raised a massive amount of money through player sales over the last few weeks and they’ve barely spent a penny of it.

With only a matter of days to go before the window slams shut at the end of August, incomings are a must and simply have to be completed quickly so that Farke’s options aren’t limited in this year’s promotion push.
If several new signings aren’t made, pressure will begin to mount on those in charge at Elland Road, especially now that Farke has made it so clear what sort of players he wants to sign this summer.
