Emi Buendia would be an "ideal" signing for Leeds United in the winter transfer window, Stephen Warnock says.

The former left-back believes the Aston Villa midfielder would be the perfect addition at the Whites before the 3 February deadline due to his situation in Birmingham.

Buendia has struggled to get game time at the Lions this season, and the Peacocks have been tipped to want someone like him, with Warnock suggesting a loan for the out-of-favour Villa attacking midfielder would suit all parties.

Speaking to LeedsLive (17 January), Warnock said: "In an ideal world, you would look at someone like [Emi] Buendia at Villa who is not getting the game time he needs and needs half-a-season of play to get his confidence back. He's someone who would be absolutely ideal for Leeds."

Emi Buendia transfer to boost Leeds United promotion hopes

Daniel Farke's team are currently at the top of the Championship table, one point ahead of Burnley and Sheffield United.

The West Yorkshire club are the favourites to win automatic promotion this season, and the Argentine's addition will undoubtedly boost those chances.

Buendia thrived in the Championship with Norwich City before his eventual move to Villa in the summer of 2021.

Leeds could use someone with the 28-year-old's experience in the squad as they look to get back into the Premier League.

While the Argentine playmaker lost his influence at Villa Park under Unai Emery due to fitness issues, he would arguably revive his career at Elland Road.

Brenden Aaronson has been decent for the Whites in the number 10 role in the current campaign, but he could use some competition for that position.

The Peacocks are also no strangers to having fitness issues in their squad, and it would be sensible for the West Yorkshire club to get someone like Buendia on a temporary transfer.

Will the signing materialise? Only time will tell.
