Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell could leave Elland Road this week
Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell is set to leave Elland Road on loan this week, with two clubs vying for his signature, as per Alan Nixon.
Writing on his Patreon on 3 July, The Sun journalist reported that both Millwall and Blackpool are interested in signing the young Whites defender who needs first-team experience.
Of the two, Millwall are leading the race at the moment. The player’s next destination could be decided within the next few days.
Graham Smyth wrote on 28 June for the Yorkshire Evening Post that there is a willingness from the Whites to let him go and experience regular football.
Cresswell could struggle to get regular games for the senior team next season, and it looks like a smart decision to let him join a Championship side where he can get over 15-20 games a season, if not more.
The 19-year-old featured five times in the Premier League in the 2021/22 campaign, and he is seen as a highly-rated young talent who has got a bright future at the club.
There are suggestions that Jesse Marsch should keep him at the club in the hope that he can be used as a backup if there’s an injury crisis.
However, that should be extremely harsh on the youngster who needs a run of games to boost his confidence.
Marsch has the likes of Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Pascal Struijk as options, and in theory, he should struggle to give Cresswell the opportunity he needs for his development.
In other Leeds United news, we could be about to receive a last-gasp £60million offer for Raphinha which could hijack Chelsea’s advances.
