Leeds United star Raphinha delays Chelsea decision as Barcelona ready final offer

Raphinha has delayed his decision on whether he will leave Leeds United for Chelsea to allow Barcelona to try one last time, according to Gianluigi Longari.

The 25-year-old appears destined to switch Elland Road for Stamford Bridge with the Whites accepting a £60million offer from The Blues on Wednesday [29 June], as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

But his heart is set on a move to the Camp Nou and he has therefore opted not to make a decision on joining Thomas Tuchel in the capital to wait for the Blaugrana’s final offer.

“Despite the proposal of Chelsea, Barcelona are convinced of being able to hijack the transfer,” La Gazzetta journalist Longari said, via his personal Twitter account.

“Raphinha has granted time to Barca in order to introduce the final proposal to Leeds.”

Barcelona are preparing that final box office offer to be sent to Thorp Arch but their previous attempts have failed due to a lack of funds which is not something Chelsea have an issue with.

Heart vs head

This is a tough decision for Raphinha and Leeds United because the player and his agent, Deco, have made no secrets about where they would prefer to go.

Should Barcelona manage to drum up the required money for the Brazilian wing wizard then he will almost certainly head to the sunny Spanish coast and play for the Catalan club.

But no one knows where this money is going to come from so should Leeds United reject the offer once again, then he needs to ask himself whether Chelsea is the right place for him.

This is an unusual year for transfers with some players being hesitant to leave their current surroundings due to the winter World Cup in Qatar and a transfer could see their form become sporadic as they settle in a new environment.

From a Leeds perspective, we would prefer to not have to come up against him next season so let’s hope Barcelona find the cash from somewhere or he’ll be returning to Elland Road next season in the blue of Chelsea.

In other Leeds United news, one of Victor Orta’s main summer transfer targets has posted his whereabouts on Instagram and it could spell good news for us.
