Leeds United dealt major Joe Rodon blow as Premier League transfer update emerges

Leeds United only have a “slim hope” of re-signing Joe Rodon for the 2024/25 season after Premier League clubs registered an interest, according to Football London.

Writing on their website (16 June), the news outlet report that Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich are all interested in signing the Tottenham defender after his successful loan spell at Elland Road last season.

The Wales international saw his contract in north London extended by a further 12 months [Football London, 6 June] and while Leeds are hopeful of taking him back to the Championship for another season at least, their chances are “slim” as the 26-year-old sees himself as a Premier League level player.

Leeds United face major transfer blow in Joe Rodon race

When Leeds United signed Rodon last summer on loan, next to nobody was overly excited about the addition and absolutely nobody would have anticipated the impact he would have on the team.

He immediately became one of the first names on the teamsheet at centre back and his leadership qualities as well as his abilities on the ball meant that he was a favourite of Daniel Farke’s at the back.

Both player and club have already admitted that they would love to continue together in the 2024/25 season, but that was before the Whites failed to earn promotion back to the Premier League.

There is now an entirely different dynamic at play and with Rodon seeing himself as more of a Premier League player than a Championship one, interest from top flight clubs is likely to pique his attention.

Tottenham aren’t going to sell cheap either and that fee could make it difficult for Leeds to compete too, so it’s a huge blow to the club’s summer plans.

In other Leeds news, Enzo Maresca wants to sign this Whites star at Chelsea with “no big fees” likely.
