Leeds United could sign midfielder on loan on deadline day

Leeds United could bring in a new midfielder on loan on deadline day, according to The Express.

The newspaper reports via their print edition [August 31, page 58] that while Marcelo Bielsa is “satisfied” with his squad, the Argentine could still sign a new midfielder or a winger on loan.

Daniel James has been strongly linked with a permanent move to settle Leeds’ need for a new winger but the identity of a new midfielder remains to be seen.

We need one

Leeds have been after a central midfielder all summer but have been let down in their pursuits of Conor Gallagher and Lewis O’Brien.

Crystal Palace beat us to the punch with Gallagher, who joined them on loan from Chelsea and scored twice against West Ham at the weekend.

As for O’Brien, Leeds and Huddersfield have struggled to agree a fee and that has led to that deal looking dead in the water.

The Yorkshire giants have been lined with other central midfielders but we’re still waiting for that concrete name to emerge on deadline day.

Signing James is all well and good. We’re happy with signing the Manchester United and Wales winger.

However, we need a central midfielder more, especially with the number of injury issues we’re having.

Victor Orta will no doubt be on the phone all day today in search of a potential last-minute deal.

We wish him all the best and we really hope he can find someone who can make a mark in Bielsa’s squad.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has mooted a last-gasp exit for this Elland Road ace.
