Leeds United could receive Max Wober transfer bid after breakthrough
Borussia Monchengladbach could be on the brink of making a transfer bid to re-sign Leeds United defender Max Wober, according to Bild.
The German outlet reported on 27 August that if Gladbach can sell midfielder Manu Kone before the transfer deadline, they could re-ignite interest in Wober, who spent last season on loan at Borussia-Park.
Gladbach have maintained their interested in re-signing Wober throughout the summer [Marlon Irlbacher, 24 August], but having been unable to agree another loan deal with United, may be able to submit a permanent bid if Kone is sold first.
Bild’s report highlighted Wober’s lack of minutes so far in the new season for Daniel Farke’s side, suggesting that interest could “flare up” if Borussia enter the fray with a permanent transfer offer.
Max Wober transfer set to go down to the wire for Leeds United
While Brenden Aaronson’s return to the fold, following a loan spell of his own in Germany, was publicly announced by the club and player both, Wober’s re-integration in LS11 has gone under the radar.
Like Aaronson, Wober played for the club in pre-season as the rest of last season’s loanees headed back out either temporarily or permanently, but with three days of the window left, he remains a United player.

However, Monchengladbach’s interest has never gone away after Wober’s Bundesliga form last season earned him a place in Austria’s EURO2024 squad, and only looks set to ramp up in the coming days.
While the Whites are correct in their view that another loan move for Wober is unacceptable, they may be inclined to accept a late bid which comes close to the £10.5million they paid for the Austrian in 2023.
Wober’s ability to cover left-back would see Farke need to bring in back-up for Junior Firpo in the closing stages of the transfer window, and as such the Peacocks will be keen to ensure Wober stays put.
In other Leeds United news, the club are keen on signing a player from the German leagues to solve their problems in midfield.
