Leeds United contract talks with Jack Harrison ongoing, Newcastle United still eyeing transfer

Contract talks between Leeds and Jack Harrison are ongoing, but Newcastle United are still lurking for a potential move in January, say 90min.

The Whites rejected bids during the summer transfer window from the Magpies and were holding out for £40m, as they deemed him untouchable with Andrea Radrizzani stating there was “no way” he would leave.

The club had been planning to open contract talks with the 25-year-old ace [Phil Hay, 14 September] and according to 90min those talks are now ongoing but haven’t deterred Newcastle from their interest in getting a deal done.

A winger is still very much on Newcastle’s wanted list and Harrison remains a target as he enters the final 18 months of his current contract.

Leeds still want to sign him up to a new deal and the hope is that a deal can be agreed before the transfer window opens to put off any potential suitors.

Harrison has proven his worth to Leeds since the arrival of Jesse Marsch and has now established himself as a key member of the first-team, so a new deal is absolutely necessary.

But with interest from clubs like Newcastle who will be able to pay a substantial transfer fee and give him great wages, it’s imperative that the club act quickly to get it done.

The signing of Luis Sinisterra was absolutely necessary to help replace Raphinha, but it’s no shock that Harrison has managed to keep his place in the team and delivered with great performances this season.

If Leeds are able to get him a new deal in advance of the transfer window, it would be one less thing to worry about during the winter window as they look to sign a striker and bolster the squad in other areas too.

It’s obviously possible the cub are able to keep hold of him beyond the window even if a new deal isn’t in place beforehand, but he’ll then be closing in on the final 12 months of his deal and real thought will need to be given as to whether or not he should be sold.
