Leeds United confident Kristoffer Klaesson will get UK work permit
Leeds United are confident Kristoffer Klaesson will obtain a UK work permit if they sign the Valerenga goalkeeper this summer, according to Stian André de Wahl.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Friday, the journalist, who writes for Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen, reported that Leeds want to “immediately” get international clearance for Klaesson, 20, to head to Elland Road this summer.
Wahl wrote: “As I understand it, Leeds [have] faith that they will get an [work permit] application approved. They want to test it with Klaesson and pick him up immediately, according to my sources. Then we’ll see if they succeed. Things can of course change during the process.”
Earlier on Friday, Wahl reported that Leeds had tabled a bid to sign Klaesson which is near to what Valerenga are expecting.
Victor Orta is also understood to have been in Oslo for talks with the Norway Under-21s goalkeeper.
Getting close
Leeds have not wasted any time in trying to find a new goalkeeper with Kiko Casilla only leaving to join Elche on loan earlier this week.
Meslier was the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper at Elland Road last season with Casilla only starting in cup matches or when the Frenchman wasn’t available.
Elia Caprile was the third-choice goalkeeper but the young Italian is very inexperienced and there would have been a lot of weight on his shoulders if he was promoted to be the new number two.
Klaesson may only be 20-years-old but he has a lot of experience from the Norwegian top-flight and he’s also knocking on the door of the Norway national team, having already earned a call-up in the last year.
We feel as though he should get a work permit to play in England but if not, there will be other goalkeepers out there for Leeds.
Either way, the Yorkshire club is confident and there’s no doubt they will have crunched the numbers to work out what it would take for the Valerenga shot-stopper to move to Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made an approach to sign this £6.4million central midfielder.
