Leeds United compensation fee set as Manchester City make contact to sign Finlay Gorman

Leeds United are likely to receive a six-figure compensation fee should Manchester City be successful in signing Finlay Gorman, reports Joe Donnohue.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (17 October), the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reports that the 2022/23 treble winners have made contact with the Whites about the signing of the 15-year-old sensation.

And should they be successful, Donnohue reports that there is already a precedent for Leeds to expect a six-figure compensation fee after City signed Harrison Parker and Luca Fletcher during the summer.

“Leeds United’s Finlay Gorman the subject of significant interest from Man City, the YEP understands,” he wrote.

“15 y/o winger already a regular for Leeds U18s and made England Under 16s debut earlier this year at age 14.

“Precedent set for six-figure compensation, should he leave.”

Lowball

The precedent already exists for a six-figure fee, but Leeds will no doubt feel that is a lowball amount for Gorman considering the quality he has already shown in his early career.

At 14-years-old he was a regular for the Under-18’s at Elland Road and has already made his England youth international debut, which means he has set himself up for a huge career.

A move to Man City would no doubt be a big step up for him, but there are no guarantees that he would get regular football there or even have a pathway to step up into the first-team.

That already exists at Leeds, just look at Archie Gray’s development in recent years and the opportunities he is getting.

Leeds will know that if he was of a certain age they’d be able to get a lot more than just six-figures for him, but unfortunately if he were to move that seems highly unlikely and we’re likely to have to just deal with it.
