Leeds United busy at work to sign new striker after really important transfer objective completed
Leeds United have completed their “number one plan” for the end of their transfer window by signing Largie Ramazani and will now be busy trying to sign a striker, says Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian transfer market specialist told GiveMeSport on 26 August that the Whites’ main “priority” now is to bring in a new man up top.
Daniel Farke has brought Mateo Joseph through as the primary striker option this term, with Patrick Bamford again injured and Joel Piroe out of form, while Georginio Rutter’s exit to Brighton sparked the recent transfer business.
Romano said: “This is the idea. Largie Ramazani was the number one plan for them, because they obviously wanted to get a winger as soon as possible. That was something really important to them.
“This is why the negotiations for Ramazani were quite silent, but also quite fast in terms of the club-to-club talks, and also player talks.
“But, yes, the next priority they are working on is signing a striker. Let’s see who it’s going to be but, for sure, Leeds will be busy with this in the next days.”
Mateo Joseph is new Leeds United breakout talent
Bamford isn’t going anywhere before the window closes and a confirmed update from Farke on his status suggests he will be back in contention soon.
The Whites were believed to have a plan to sell him or Piroe [Daily Mail, 1 July], but with just days left before the deadline neither is looking likely.
Joseph’s performance in the 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday suggested he will be a key part of the Leeds attack this term, but with the production of Rutter and Crysencio Summerville in front of goal gone it looks like the club want a scorer.
Ramazani has been followed in by another wide attacker in Tottenham’s Manor Solomon on loan, while the club are also pushing for a permanent deal to sign Freiberg’s Hungarian international Roland Sallai [Sacha Tavolieri, 27 August].

There is a bid on the table at FC Koln for their midfielder Dejan Ljubicic [Daily Mail, 27 August] after he split with his agent over an attempt to force his “dream” move to Elland Road [BILD, 23 August].
So there looks to be plenty of activity going on in the background at this late stage, but it sounds like a striker signing might still trump all of those pursuits.
