Leeds United are now pushing hard to seal a deal for Roland Sallai from Freiberg before the transfer window closes, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The journalist reported via X on 27 August that the Hungary international is keen on moving to Elland Road and a €9million [£7.6m] move is on the cards.

Sallai would be the third late attacker through the doors in the final days before the deadline, after Largie Ramazani's permanent move from Almeria was confirmed, and Manor Solomon's loan from Tottenham set to be completed later on 27 August [David Ornstein, 26 August].

Daniel Farke's squad has lost star attackers Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville while Jaidon Anthony's loan ended.

Leeds United also set to land Manor Solomon from Tottenham

The Whites have suddenly exploded into life to close out the window, which will come as a relief to a fanbase which has seen a strong squad severely weakened.

But will also raise questions as to why more wasn't concluded earlier to avoid a frantic late scramble before the deadline.

The 49ers and the recruitment department might argue that value can't be found until late on, but Farke is already well into the season with an unsettled squad.

Ramazani's deal cost £9.3m [The Athletic, 21 August] and Sallai could now join as another wide option, while Leeds overcame a Dutch hijack to close in on completing the Solomon deal [Fabrizio Romano, 27 August].

A bid was put in for Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United as well, although it immediately failed [The Star, 26 August], so suddenly there is extensive action on incoming deals.

Fans, and Farke, will be glad to see that, but might have preferred more of it to be done ahead of time.
