Leeds United and Burnley race leader emerges in bid to sign Man United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri
Leeds United may lose out to Burnley in the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, according to The Mirror.
On page 59 of the publication’s 22 August edition, David Anderson reported that the Clarets lead the charge to sign Mejbri, as they seek a replacement for Fulham-bound Sander Berge.
The news comes after Sevilla – where Mejbri spent the second half of the 2023-24 season – opted against making his loan a £17m permanent deal [The Athletic, 20 August].
Leeds United chase Hannibal Mejbri from fierce rivals
As the final week of the window approaches, Leeds remain desperate for midfield cover, having lost both Archie Gray and Glen Kamara for considerable fees this summer.
Mejbri gathered Championship experience whilst with Birmingham City on loan in 2022-23 and, at the age of 21, is still garnering plenty of interest for a permanent transfer or another loan deal.
At present, Daniel Farke has only Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and summer loanee Joe Rothwell to use in the centre of midfield, with at least two more signings for the middle of the park required.

Bitter rivals Manchester United are in the process of trimming down their squad with Facundo Pellistri this week sold to Greek outfit Panathinaikos.
Mejbri’s stock is high in EFL circles – he has played 13 first-team games for Man United and already has 27 full caps for Tunisia to his name.
