Leeds United have announced that Josh McDonald has signed his first professional contract at Elland Road.

The 17-year-old winger has made 17 appearances in the Premier League North for Leeds, scoring five goals and assisting three more.

McDonald recently made his first appearance for the Under-21s after replacing Sonny Perkins against Leicester City in Premier League 2.

Leeds confirmed the contract news in a statement on their official website on Thursday (21 March), with McDonald penning terms until 2026.

Much is expected of young attacker McDonald at Elland Road, and news of this first pro deal can only be good news for Leeds.

As a Scotland international at Under-17s level and with an appearance for Leeds at U21 level to his name, McDonald is showing he is not far off being a fully fledged senior player.

McDonald's statistics in the Premier League North are very impressive, which the club will no doubt hope he can sustain as he makes the step up to regular appearances in Premier League 2.

This is the second new deal awarded to a youth player this week, as Sam Chambers also penned his firs professional deal at Elland Road on Tuesday (19 March).

Leeds are flying at senior level right now, with a Premier League return looking imminent, and the club also look well stocked as far as the future is concerned.
