A supercomputer has predicted the final automatic promotion standings in the Championship following wins for Leeds United and Ipswich Town.

Leeds defeated fierce rivals Millwall 2-0 at Elland Road on Sunday, while Ipswich thumped Sheffield Wednesday 6-0 24 hours beforehand.

The win moved United to the top of the table for the first time this season, although Leicester City are level on points with a game in hand.

According to Opta Analyst [19 March], Leicester are still favourites to win the title as they have a 58.4-per-cent chance of doing so.

That compares to a 33.1-per-cent likelihood for Leeds and 7.7 per cent for Ipswich.

Leicester City and Leeds United's automatic promotion prospects assessed

When it comes to a top-two finish, Leicester are ranked at a 87.9-per-cent likelihood, Leeds 78.5 per cent and Ipswich 28.8 per cent in what could be a record-breaking campaign.

Southampton, who can move to within three points of the top two if they win their two games in hand, have an outside 4.8-per-cent chance.

According to the findings, which take a number of different factors into account, Leicester will finish top, Leeds second and Ipswich third.

Southampton are predicted to finish next in the table, followed by West Brom and Norwich City, so the top six will stay as it is.

The only exception to the exact current standings is that Leeds are expected to drop a place to second.

One word of caution is that Leeds play five top-half teams in their final eight matches, but that is taken into consideration by this supercomputer.

Football so often likes to spring surprises, but let's just hope this season pans out in as stress-free manner as possible from Leeds' perspective.
