Don Goodman has compared Leeds United to Manchester City due to the way they have hit peak form since the turn of the year.

After a largely underwhelming first half to the campaign, Leeds have since taken 37 points from the last 39 on offer in the Championship.

United's remarkable turnaround peaked on Sunday (17 March) when beating Millwall 2-0 at Elland Road to move top for the first time this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports News [19 March, 10:44am], Goodman said: "It's huge. They've won 12, drawn one and lost none of the last 13.

"That, at any level of football, is an incredible winning run. It's a massive momentum and confidence builder.

"Leeds are in the ascendency now and everything is going their way, but five of their last eight games are against teams in the top half.

"So there are some tricky games on paper, but momentum is with them. They have peaked at the perfect time.

"We talk about Manchester City in the Premier League regularly, about getting to the new year and getting some momentum.

"Well Leeds United have done that in the Championship this season."

Leeds United and Leicester City occupy top two

Leeds have taken their time, but they are top of the table for the first time this season and now much fancied to go up automatically.

According to Opta's Jonny Cooper, this is the latest Leeds have climbed to the summit for the first time in a season since 1967-68.

Back then, they went on to slip down to fourth place come the end of the campaign. Fingers crossed for a different outcome this time around.

Not many felt this winning run was sustainable, yet on they go, with the only blip a draw away at local rivals Huddersfield Town.

Even in that game, a point was collected on an off-day and that could yet prove all the difference come the end of the season.

Realistically, winning these final eight games is going to be a massive task. At the same time, Ipswich and Leicester will also drop more points.

It is all about holding the nerve from this point on. And on the basis of the past three months or so, Leeds' players are capable of doing just that.
