Leeds United agree ‘extravagant’ Summerville clause with West Ham as fresh details emerge

Leeds United have agreed on some “extravagant” clauses in the deal to take Crysencio Summerville to West Ham United, according to Last Word on Football.

The outlet reported on its website on Thursday (1 August) that one clause will see the Hammers payout further add-ons if they manage to qualify for the Champions League whilst the Dutchman is at the London Stadium.

Another would see Daniel Farke’s side pocket further fees if the Irons manage to get their hands on another trophy, which seems more likely given the Hammers’ previous success in the Europa Conference League.

West Ham will play Leeds an initial £25million fee which could rise to £34million if all the clauses included in the transfer are met, with the more basic ones including total appearances and goals scored.

Will Crysencio Summerville exit Leeds United amid West Ham transfer speculation?

Some of these clauses may not be met, but Leeds United have sensibly structured this deal in a manner which means that Summerville could provide them with a consistent source of funding over the next few years.

Whether or not the Hammers actually manage to lift silverware or qualify for the Champions League will largely be irrelevant as the most important thing for the Whites is that he plays regularly and consistently finds the back of the net.

The majority of the £9million worth of add-ons will be based around individual performances, with just the top end of that fee likely dependent on whether or not Lopetegui’s side lifts the Carabao Cup title.

While fans will be gutted to see Summerville depart Elland Road, the financial side of this deal partnered with the earlier sale of Archie Gray will mean that the Whites have plenty of money to spend between now and the end of the transfer window.

It isn’t yet clear who they may target, but the recruitment team will have a list of targets already on their agenda as Summerville’s exit has seemed inevitable for much of the summer window.
