Leeds to hold further talks over Raphinha contract renewal - report

Leeds have ruled out the sale of Raphinha this month and are planning further talks with his agent Deco over a new contract, according to David Anderson.

The Brazilian winger has been the stand-out performer for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season, scoring eight goals as Leeds battle relegation.

He had been linked with a move away in January, with reports from Brazil [TNT Sports] claiming a deal with Bayern Munich had already been agreed.

But The Mirror‘s David Anderson is reporting that the club have completely ruled out the sale of the 25-year-old this month, with further talks planned with his agent to thrash out fresh terms.

Raphinha is currently under contract until 2025 at Elland Road, but after becoming a key player Leeds are keen to tie him down to a bigger deal for longer.

The news that the club are standing firm and not letting their top man leave in mid-season is huge for fans and their chances of survival this season.

The club should be looking to add quality around Raphinha, not lose him if they want to stay up and it seems as though common sense has prevailed on this occasion.

News that Victor Orta has already met twice with Deco to discuss a new contract is positive too, as it shows that the player is receptive to staying at Elland Road and proves his commitment to the cause.

It’s inevitable that Raphinha will leave the club if his performances continue to improve, but there is no rush and Leeds are doing all the right things to show him that Elland Road is the place to be for now.

If they can get a new deal done quickly it will provide a huge boost in morale for the fans as they tackle a tough second half of the season.
