Beren Cross shares thoughts on Leeds move for Ben Brereton-Diaz
Leeds making a move for Ben Brereton Diaz would be the wrong play this January, according to reliable journalist Beren Cross.
The Blackburn striker has scored 20 goals in the Championship so far this season, shooting Rovers up to second in the table behind Bournemouth.
His form has seen him linked with a host of Premier League clubs [teamTALK] for a £20m move this month, as he enters the final 18-months of his contract at Ewood Park.
During a Q&A on LeedsLive, Cross admitted that while he isn’t entirely sure what talks have been held between the clubs he doesn’t think signing Brereton-Diaz is the right decision for the Elland Road club anyway.
“I don’t know what conversations Blackburn have had with Leeds, but I would be very surprised if Brereton was available to anyone without a massive amount of money this month. In my opinion, I don’t think it’s a move which would suit Leeds.
“They have more than enough strikers and is he going to represent good value at this point?. I just don’t think that’s the right play by Leeds in this window.”
Interesting
It’s interesting to me that Cross believes Leeds have got enough firepower up front currently to survive what has been a poor season so far.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have won just four games all season and have scored on 21 goals in 19 games this season and only Raphinha has scored more than twice in the Premier League.
Patrick Bamford was excellent last season but he has really struggled with injuries this season and it has forced Leeds to play with Tyler Roberts up front for much of the campaign, with Rodrigo also struggling with fitness.
Another striker, who is in the form of his life and seemingly available for a relatively small amount considering how much money Leeds will make by just being in the division, is something they should be prioritising.
If they’re not interested then fair enough, but they should be looking for alternatives then and not ignoring the position.
