Leeds still want to rival Spurs to sign Raul de Tomas

Leeds United want to reinforce their attacking options by signing Espanyol forward Raul de Tomas, according to Fichajes.

The Spanish outlet has reported on their website that Spurs and West Ham are also pushing hard for the goal-machine.

De Tomas has a long-term contract until 2026 with the La Liga club, who won’t allow their star man to leave for less than £38.2million.

Spurs appear to be ahead of the rest, as things stand.

Antonio Conte has arrived at the club on Tuesday and will be looking to reinforce the squad that he has inherited in the Premier League.

Fichajes claim that Spurs are not “the only bidders” – insinuating that all three clubs are ready to place the money on the table.

Almost £40million would smash Leeds’ transfer record, and would also likely mean this one could be out of reach.

Unlikely, but needed?

Leeds rarely spend any money in January, and especially smashing their record to bring in a player who may not make an impact in months.

Marcelo Bielsa demands huge fitness levels from his players, and likely more than any other coach or club demands.

Having said that, if this season has proved anything, is it that the Whites are desperate for another forward?

Patrick Bamford has been injured for more than a month though, and Bielsa has struggled to cover that absence – trying Rodrigo, Jack Harrison and Dan James all there.

De Tomas has scored against the likes of Real Madrid this season and has been described as “phenomenal” recently.

This is a huge amount of money, and this one can surely be classed as highly unlikely, especially until next summer when it may be too late.
