Leeds ready medical for Michael Zetterer despite update on 'compensation payments'

Leeds United are preparing a medical for Michael Zetterer even though the Frankfurt goalkeeper hasn't fully agreed a move to Elland Road.

Zetterer, 31, arrived in Leeds on Friday afternoon and an agreement has been reached between the Premier League club and their Bundesliga counterparts.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that the Whites are paying £4.3million to sign the former Werder Bremen goalkeeper on a permanent basis.

He added that Zetterer is also in England for face-to-face negotiations with Leeds.

However, as of Saturday morning, personal terms still haven't been finalised.

Leeds seem confident they are going to get them done, though, based on the latest news from Germany.

German newspaper BILD reported via their print edition on Saturday that Zetterer has already arrived in England and that the two clubs have shook hands on a deal.

BILD adds that Leeds are "preparing medical checks" for the goalkeeper.

However, it is understood that Zetterer hasn't given his "final consent" to complete the move, with BILD suggesting that his "compensation payments" haven't been agreed upon.

Leeds are signing Zetterer as a second-choice goalkeeper for a few million pounds, so they're unlikely to want to spend too much on his wages, which could be causing the issue.

But will this derail the whole deal?

Ultimately, Zetterer would not have agreed to fly to England unless he had a good idea that he was going to get the terms he wanted at the Yorkshire club.

He's not even been in the country for 24 hours yet and the fact that Leeds are planning a medical for him, suggests that there's confidence on both sides that personal terms can be finalised.

However, this transfer saga has had a few twists and turns already, with Zetterer's agent saying earlier this month that the German shot-stopper has no intent on leaving Frankfurt and is happy where he is.

The player himself needs convincing. But the fact he's on these shores already is a big positive.
