Leeds make approach to sign Romano Schmid amid £13m developments from Germany

Leeds United are looking to revamp their attacking options this month.

Daniel Farke is keen to bring in reinforcements to help keep the Whites in the Premier League and get more out of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha.

The Elland Road outfit are eight points above the relegation zone, but Farke knows that it could all change with a poor run of form.

The 49ers Enterprises group look set to back him, and Werder Bremen star Romano Schmid could be the answer.

What is the latest on Leeds’ interest in Romano Schmid?

Leeds are keen on another attacking recruit to add depth to their ranks, and Schmid would be a solid solution for the LS11 outfit.

The 25-year-old Austrian has two goals and five assists in 17 Bundesliga matches, and now the Peacocks have made an approach.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 18 January that Farke’s side were in talks to sign Schmid, with negotiations continuing over a £13million deal with add-ons.

Who is Leeds target Romano Schmid?

Schmid has plenty of experience to bring to the Yorkshire squad, with 131 appearances in the Bundesliga, and 12 goals and 24 assists in that time.

He has also featured six times in the Europa League, so he has played in European competition before, which is a bonus.

He has been capped 31 times by his country, including in the European Championships and the UEFA Nations League, with three goals in those appearances.

Schmid’s career stats.

Schmid is a creative player, capable of making chances with his passing ability and clever movement, which should see him fit in well under Farke.

He is versatile, as he can play in attacking midfield, in a deeper midfield role, or even on the flanks, which again should suit the Whites, as they need cover in as many areas as they can get.

There will be concerns over his finishing ability and his ball retention, but they can be ironed out on the training pitch, as we have seen with other signings, such as Calvert-Lewin

Overall, it is exciting to see the club moving for big-name targets and strengthening in the market after standing still last January, and seeking to do everything to retain their top-flight status.
