Leeds in scrap to sign Louie Barry as Aston Villa make transfer decision

Aston Villa have decided to recall Louie Barry from Stockport County in January and send him straight back out on loan amid interest from Leeds United, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The 21-year-old has been in red-hot form in League One, but the newspaper reported via their print edition on Sunday (15 December, page 67) that the Birmingham-based club want him to be tested at a higher level.

Leeds, though, are in the midst of a transfer scrap to sign the attacker, with promotion rivals Burnley, Middlesbrough and Sunderland also in the mix.

Barry, who is highly rated at Aston Villa, notably blew Michael Dawson after scoring in his debut for Stockport in August.

“Honestly, it’s unbelievable”, the pundit said on Sky Sports, as quoted by BirminghamLive (10 August).

“You think surely not. Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, it’s in the back of the net – what a goal. It’s absolutely magnificent.”

As a right-footed attacker, Barry has spent the majority of his time on loan at Stockport so far on the left wing, which has worked out well for both parties as evident from his tally of 14 goals and an assist in 20 League appearances.

However, Barry is also capable of playing across the front three, thus making him an attractive option for Daniel Farke’s Leeds.

There is no doubt about Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph’s abilities as players, but they have often been inconsistent in front of goal.

The Elland Road outfit could really do with a regular goalscorer and could have exactly that in Barry.

Although, it remains to be seen if they can convince Aston Villa and the player to move to West Yorkshire ahead of the other Championship clubs in the mix.

Nevertheless, he will make a solid addition to the Whites squad as they look to earn their way back into the Premier League.
