Leeds United have joined the race to sign Louie Barry on loan from Aston Villa in January, according to TEAMtalk.

The website reported [11 December] that the Whites, expected to be busy in the winter market, are among the Championship clubs on red alert for winger Barry who has lit up League One while on loan at Stockport County.

Villa are set to recall the 21-year-old in January [TEAMtalk, 10 December] as they feel he will now benefit further from experiencing the Championship, with Leeds ready to offer a step up and players potentially heading for the exit door.

Barry has already scored 15 goals in all competitions so far this season, having been promoted with Stockport out of League Two last season and renewed his loan.

Leeds United chase Louie Barry from Aston Villa

Barry appears to have been around for a long time despite his tender years, having progressed through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion and made headlines when he joined the famed Barcelona academy of La Masia - becoming the first English player to do so.

Lasting just six months in Catalonia, he was purchased by Aston Villa and famously scored for what was essentially an Under-18 side in the FA Cup against Liverpool in 2021 after the first team were barred from playing due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

Barry is a lot more experienced than would be let on by his sporadic opportunities at Villa Park, with Stockport his fifth loan club in senior football.

Daniel Farke - despite having flexibility in his wide options throughout an admittedly small overall squad - evidently views Barry as a player who can not only aid the side's promotion push, but develop in a demanding environment at Elland Road.

Should Leeds secure the exciting forward who in turn helps the club back into the Premier League, there could even be an interesting conversation to be had with Villa in the summer regarding Barry's long-term future.
