Leeds in formal talks with agent of striker fascinated by idea of playing for Bielsa – report
Leeds United have held “formal” talks with the agent of Stuttgart striker Nicolas Gonzalez, according to Calciomercato.it.
The Italian news outlet claims that AC Milan and Napoli are interested in the 22-year-old Argentina international but Leeds’ interest is the most serious at the moment.
It is understood that while no offer has been tabled and Leeds do have other striker targets on their mind, Gonzalez is keen on the idea of heading to England as he is “fascinated” by the prospect of playing for Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League.
Who wouldn’t be keen on playing for Bielsa after seeing what he did with Leeds in the Championship?
Not only did the Argentine get the Whites playing some truly fantastic football, but he also took players who were deemed average and turned them into some of the very best at what they do in English football.
Take Kalvin Phillips for example.
He was an under-used midfielder who was mainly used in an advanced central role but Bielsa transformed him into one of England’s best holding midfielders and a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad now beckons for the 24-year-old.
Gonzalez is only 22-years-old so he is not yet quite the finished article just yet and Bielsa will be able to make him a better player if he heads to Leeds.
However, Gonzalez is valued at £18million by Stuttgart and it remains to be seen if the Whites will be splashing that cash on anyone who isn’t Ben White this summer.
We’ll have to wait and see but we’re not holding much hope at the moment, especially as so many Argentinean players have been linked with Leeds since Bielsa and his men won promotion.
