Phil Hay details major Marcelo Bielsa contract update
Leeds United have “essentially agreed” a contract extension with manager Marcelo Bielsa, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
Bielsa achieved what every Leeds fan had been dreaming over for well over a decade last season when he took the Yorkshire giants back to the Premier League.
However, the Argentine’s contract ended when Leeds finished their 2019/20 Championship campaign last month and his future needed to be addressed ahead of next season.
Writing on The Athletic website, Hay has reported that terms are pretty much agreed between Leeds and Bielsa and the manager should have his new contract done and dusted before Wednesday.
“My understanding is that Leeds and Bielsa are essentially agreed on the terms of an extension for next season,” Hay wrote.
“Unless something goes wrong over the weekend, the contract should be finalised and put in place before the players resume training on Wednesday.

“The length of time taken to get this done shouldn’t be a surprise. Neither of his previous contract negotiations with Leeds were quick and both Bielsa’s deal and his expectations can be complex.
“But Leeds are confident and his camp are confident. The bottom line: the club cannot afford for this process to fail and they know that.”
Who else is punching the air with delight?
This is huge news and every Leeds fan is going to be absolutely delighted to see that one of the best managers in Elland Road history is extending his stay.
Bielsa has already shown that his style of football and his players can mix it with the big boys when they impressed despite losing 1-0 at Arsenal back in January.
We’re now going to get to see how he gets on against the likes of Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti – some of the biggest managerial names in the world of football.
It is going to be tough and there are going to be bumps in the road but we fully expect Bielsa to be able to keep Leeds in the Premier League and do so in style.
In other Leeds United news, Bielsa believes this striker will take the Premier League by storm if Leeds sign him.
