Leeds in advanced talks over loan-to-buy deal for player keen on Elland Rd switch – report
Leeds United are in advanced talks to sign Jean-Kevin Augustin on a loan-to-buy basis from RB Leipzig, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper claims that Leeds want to sign Augustin, 22, on an initial loan deal but would then have the obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer, presumably if they win promotion to the Premier League.
It is understood that Augustin, who was valued a £35million a year ago amid attention from the Premier League, is keen on a switch to Elland Road to join up with Marcelo Bielsa.
Augustin has spent the first half of the season on loan at Monaco but has only managed two starts in Ligue 1.
According to Football Insider, Monaco and Leipzig have agreed that Augustin’s loan deal in the French top-flight will be terminated, and that opens up the possibility of a move to Leeds.
It is looking more and more likely that Augustin will join the Yorkshire giants before the January transfer window slams shut on Friday.
The Mail reports that Leeds have also tried to sign Southampton’s Che Adams and have discussed a possible move for Hull star Jarrod Bowen, but Augustin seems as though he could be a great fit in the Championship.
Yes, he has struggled at Monaco but there is every chance he can revive his form at Elland Road.
Augustin is still a young player at 22-years-of-age and having him for the rest of the season, with the possibility of a future permanent deal, could be inspired business by Bielsa and director of football Victor Orta.
He scored 20 goals in his two seasons at Leipzig before joining Monaco in the summer.
He’s scored against the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Frankfurt, Porto, Celtic and Marseille.
Surely, Augustin can hit the back of the net against most sides in the Championship based on that.
In other Leeds United news, Danny Murphy has urged the Whites to re-sign this player.
