Leeds centre-forward to join La Liga club on loan, will be presented within hours – report
Leeds United have terminated Raja Mujica’s loan at Extremadura and are set to send him on loan to Villarreal, according to Marca.
Mujica, 21, joined Segunda Division club Extremadura on a season-long loan in the summer but has struggled to earn much game-time with just eight appearances in all competitions and zero goals.
El Periodico Extremadura reported this week that Mujica missed a last-gasp chance to open his account for Extremadura at the weekend in their 2-1 defeat to Almeria and ended up leaving the stadium in tears and his future at the second-tier club in doubt.
Now, Marca reports that Leeds and Extremadura have agreed to end his loan spell but the Whites have already found a new temporary home for the striker at La Liga club Villarreal.
While it seems unlikely that Mujica will play any first-team games for La Liga’s ninth-placed club, he does seem set to play a role for their B team, who are eighth in Second B Group III.
Marca adds that Mujica will be presented as a new arrival for Villarreal in the coming hours, so Leeds have certainly moved fast to sort out a new loan for the centre-forward.
Strikers and terminated loans have been a theme for Leeds this month.
Jack Clarke was recalled by Tottenham to start with and Eddie Nketiah’s return to Arsenal has left Marcelo Bielsa short of options up front.
Signing a replacement has proven tricky for the Championship giants and fans will no doubt want to see incomings rather than more outgoings.
Mujica is clearly not good enough for Bielsa’s first-team, but there are bound to be a few grumbles among those who want to see youngsters like him or Ryan Edmondson promoted and handed a chance to shine.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are ready to table a bid to sign this £12million-rated striker who scored on Saturday.
