Leeds can land more than expected for Joe Gelhardt as exit announcement nears
Leeds United could receive a higher amount for Joe Gelhardt's exit.
The Whites have agreed a deal with Hull City, who are set to add the Elland Talent to their squad.
He spent 18 months on loan with the Tigers, notching 15 goals and two assists in 42 Championship matches last season.
Gelhardt has not played for the Whites since October 2024, so they will just want to get him off their books.
Daniel Farke's side need as much money as they can get so that they can afford to reinvest it into new signings.
They may have more in the coffers after the latest figures on the deal for the 24-year-old were revealed.
The initial deal was reported to be £6.5million, with a medical underway on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported on Friday that the package could actually be worth £8m.
That represents a brilliant profit on the £1m that they paid Wigan for his services in 2020.
They claim that official announcement on his LS11 exit is expected soon.
Why Leeds chose to sell Gelhardt to Hull
Gelhardt scored three and bagged seven assists in his time with the Whites, and his top-flight record was dismal.
In that competition, he managed two goals and six assists in 35 matches, which is not enough for a team that is battling the drop.
The Whites have definitely got the better deal, as he has not shown that he can be a reliable option at the highest level.
Obviously, he is comfortable at Hull and likes working with Sergej Jakirovic, but it would still be a reach to suggest that he can score enough to keep the Humberside outfit in the division.
The Peacocks may end up regretting the decision if he somehow does, especially with the Tigers now being in the same league, but right now, that will not be a concern and it should be regarded as excellent business.
If the fee is actually closer to £8m than the originally expected £6m, then it is even better for the Yorkshire side.
