Leeds better positioned to sign powerful forward after development in race for deal – report

Leeds United are “better positioned” to sign Club Brugge forward Emmanuel Dennis after Manchester United dropped out of the race for his signature, according to CaughtOffside.

The football news website reports that Leeds, Arsenal, Everton, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Inter Milan are all keen on signing the 22-year-old, who is said to have become “one of European football’s hottest prospects”.

Man United were said to be interested but have handed a boost to those who still want the Nigeria international by cooling their pursuit.

As far as Leeds are concerned, it could still be an uphill battle for them to sign Dennis because CaughtOffside adds that Brugge want at least £36millon for the forward, whose preference is to join a club that plays in the Champions League.

But, is Dennis a good fit for Leeds anyway?

CaughtOffside says that he’s a “powerful forward” who’s been “tipped for great things”.

Marcelo Bielsa certainly likes his players to be versatile and as well as playing as a striker, Dennis can play on both wings.

Dennis scored nine goals and supplied two assists in 33 appearances across all competitions for Brugge last season, with two of his goals coming in a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid in the Champions League group stages.

Leeds don’t really need more wingers.

They need centre-backs and an out-and-out centre-forward more than anything else before the new Premier League season kicks off in September.

Dennis isn’t either of them and for £36million, it’s probably not worth pursuing the deal any further – especially if the player himself is only interested in joining a Champions League club.
