Leeds United's long-running pursuit of Marseille forward Igor Paixao has reached its conclusion.

The Whites have been credited with an interest in the 26-year-old throughout the summer window.

Paixao only arrived at Marseille from Feyenoord a year ago in a club-record deal worth £30million.

He scored six goals and assisted five more in Ligue 1 last season and has been linked with numerous clubs.

And it appears the former Brazil Under-23s international's future is now locked in.

What has been decider on Igor Paixao's future?

Sunderland were rivalling Leeds for Paixao's signature, among other clubs across the continent.

However, an update shared by transfer specialist Sacha Tavolieri on Monday evening does not make for good reading for either.

It is said that a decision has been made that Paixao is staying at Marseille this summer.

Marseille are unable to register new players and cannot afford to leave themselves short up top.

It is not good news for Leeds, but at least Daniel Farke's men can focus on other targets before the window closes at 11pm on Tuesday.

Who next for Leeds if not Paixao?

Paixao would have been a game-changing signing for Leeds in attack given what we have seen in the Netherlands and France.

However, it has surely been apparent for some time that Leeds were not going to land the talented attacker.

That perhaps explains the recent links to Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk, which are only growing stronger.

Everything points towards Leeds striking a deal with Chelsea for Mudryk on loan.

Other attackers have been linked, but right now this seems like the only one that will realistically go through over the next 24 hours or so.
