Klaesson not allowed to speak to media with Leeds United deal close
Valerenga’s Kristoffer Klaesson has been blocked from speaking to the media with the goalkeeper close to joining Leeds United, according to Dagsavisen.
The Norwegian newspaper claims that ahead of Valarenga’s Europa Conference League clash against Gent in Belgium tomorrow (Thursday), the 20-year-old shot-stopper was pulled out of media duties amid speculation surrounding his future at the Oslo club.
La Nacion journalist Claudio Mauri has reported that Marcelo Bielsa is on the verge of signing Klaesson to serve as Leeds’ second-choice goalkeeper next season behind Illan Meslier.
It’s very likely that Klaesson was prevented from talking to the media because everyone knew what the most-discussed topic was going to be.
Leeds have been strongly linked with the Norway Under-21s goalkeeper for a while now with Nettavisen reporting that Victor Orta had been in Oslo to discuss a deal with him.
Although Klaesson would be swapping the number one jersey and European football at Valerenga for the number two jersey at Leeds, there’s no doubt it’s a step up.
Leeds have a big following in Norway and we expect that this deal will be done sooner rather than later with Orta moving fast to sign a new back-up goalkeeper after Kiko Casilla left to join Elche on loan.
It will be interesting to see on Thursday whether Klaesson is in the squad for Valerenga when they take on Gent in the new Europa Conference League.
If he’s not, then it’s a good hint that he’s bound for Leeds but if he is, it shouldn’t mean too much as he played at the weekend in Valerenga’s defeat to Haugesund.
In other Leeds United news, Bielsa is hunting for a new house amid a new update on his contract situation.
