Kalvin Phillips value drops 50% as Leeds United want popular deal for Man City ace

Leeds United want to secure a popular deal for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips after his value has dropped by 50 per cent, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper reported on page 59 of its print edition on Thursday (4 April) that the Premier League champions are willing to cut their losses on the England international and he could be available for £25million after they signed him from the Whites for £50million in 2022.

It added that the 28-year-old midfielder, who is currently on loan at West Ham, would have to take a “significant” wage cut to secure a return to Elland Road this summer as his £150,000-a-week salary could scupper a potential deal.

Kalvin Phillips will have to sacrifice to secure Leeds United return

It’s pretty clear that Leeds wouldn’t be able to break their wage structure and match Phillips’ current wages at Man City.

That means he will have to take a pretty sizeable wage cut if he is serious about making a return to Elland Road this summer on the back of what has been an extremely difficult past two years.

The midfielder struggled for minutes at the Etihad Stadium and it’s only got worse for him at West Ham, having made a number of mistakes since making the loan switch in January.

Kalvin Phillips could return to Leeds United

While his wages may be an issue, the Whites also have to take care of business themselves this season as the Englishman won’t be joining unless they secure promotion back to the Premier League.

There are a few different steps that need to happen before a move back to West Yorkshire can be considered a serious proposition, but it might be the best way to save his career.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have submitted an offer to sign a forward sensation as a fee development has emerged.
