Leeds United are plotting a move to re-sign Kalvin Phillips if the club secure promotion back to the Premier League this season, according to The Sun.

The newspaper reported on its website on Saturday (30 March) that the Whites want to offer the England international a chance to rebuild his career and believe Manchester City would accept a bid in the region of £30million.

It said the Citizens' interest in West Ham star Lucas Paqueta could be a potential stumbling block as they would like to use Phillips as a makeweight to sign the Brazilian from the Hammers, where the 28-year-old midfielder is currently on loan.

Leeds United return could save Kalvin Phillips career

It certainly isn't out of the question that Leeds could secure a deal to sign Phillips permanently on the back of what has been a disastrous 18 months for him.

Since the midfielder made the £42million switch to the Premier League champions, he's played very little football, lost his place in the England squad and struggled on loan at West Ham.

Although Man City's interest in Paqueta could dictate what happens with Phillips this summer, it seems incredibly unlikely that the Hammers will look to sign him permanently.

Leeds United fans at Elland Road.
Leeds United fans are amongst the most passionate supporters in the country.

That means a return to Elland Road could be the best option for the Englishman to save his career in the top flight, but only if Daniel Farke's side secure promotion this season.

It's been a really tough time for him recently and you'd think he would probably jump at the chance to return to West Yorkshire and play in front of the fans that supported him for so many years.
