Kalvin Phillips transfer: Leeds United ‘dressing room stance’ emerges

Kalvin Phillips has been linked with Leeds United, and Elland Road’s dressing room may have already made their decision on his transfer.

The 29-year-old spent eight years in the Whites’ senior squad before signing for Manchester City in 2022 for big money.

Phillips could be on his way back to Elland Road next summer after spending time on loan at West Ham United and Ipswich Town.

The Peacocks are one of the favourites for Premier League promotion this season under Daniel Farke, and some players could potentially reunite with the Manchester City midfielder in the coming months.

Leeds players will want Phillips transfer next summer

Players at the West Yorkshire outfit will want Phillips to return next summer, Joe Jacobson says.

The former Wycombe Wanderers defender believes stars at the Whites would “snap your hand off” for the English midfielder’s arrival.

Jacobson reserved praise for the Peacocks’ current midfielders, though, after their impressive performances this season.

Speaking to Football League World (20 March), the Welshman said: “If you ask any Leeds player if they would take Phillips in the summer, they would all snap your hand off. I don’t think you can disregard him.

“However, in the midfield in Leeds, with Tanaka, Gruev and Ampadu — they’ve all been brilliant this season — it’s hard to take that away from them.”

49ers Enterprises should sanction bargain Phillips transfer

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Phillips wanting to return to Elland Road after going through a tough spell in his career.

The 29-year-old arguably enjoyed the best years at the West Yorkshire outfit and may want to revive his stature in a familiar environment.

After a tumultuous few years at Man City, it would make sense for the English midfielder to come back to where it all began for him.

As for the Peacocks, they already have an abundance of midfield talent in their squad, with Ethan Ampadu and Ilian Gruev as the standout players.

With Ampadu and Gruev’s injury issues this season, though, Ao Tanak and Joe Rothwell have showcased their talent under Farke and haven’t disappointed.

The Japan international has been a revelation at Elland Road this season, while the Bournemouth loanee has exceeded expectations.

While Leeds boast an impressive squad for the Championship, most players lack Premier League, which will be key to retaining their status in the English top flight once they get promoted, making Phillips’ signing a no-brainer.

The 49ers Enterprises should pursue a bargain transfer for the 29-year-old if possible.
