Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a return to Leeds United, but the 49ers Enterprises may have other ideas next summer.

The 29-year-old spent around seven years with the Whites' senior squad before completing a big-money move to Manchester City in 2022.

Currently on loan at Ipswich Town after struggling under Pep Guardiola, Phillips could return to Elland Road in the coming months.

Daniel Farke hopes for Premier League promotion this season, but that may not be enough to convince Paraag Marathe to splash the cash on the Peacocks' former midfielder.

49ers may be reluctant to sanction Phillips transfer at Leeds

Leeds may be reluctant to sign Phillips next summer due to the potential finances involved, according to YEP.

The new outlet reports (11 March) that Man City could possibly be hoping to recoup £30million for the 29-year-old.

It has been claimed that while the 49ers could seemingly be open to spend that amount on a single player if they win promotion, the likelihood of it being a defensive midfielder are slim.

The Englishman also earns around £150,000 per week at the Cityzens, and his wages would need to be reduced for a deal to materialise realistically.

Leeds should sanction Phillips transfer next summer

Phillips would undoubtedly want to return to Leeds after failing to make his mark in English football away from the West Yorkshire outfit.

Coming back to a familiar environment may bring the best out of the England international once again and provide the Whites with a quality addition to their squad.

Ethan Ampadu has been injury-prone at Elland Road, making reinforcements in the middle of the park evidently necessary in the coming months.

Ilia Gruev also spent considerable time on the sidelines at the start of the season, forcing the Peacocks to sign Josuha Guilavogui as a free agent.

While Joe Rothwell has been a brilliant addition to the West Yorkshire outfit's squad, his loan deal will expire at the end of the season.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Bournemouth up their asking price for the 30-year-old next summer, which could make life difficult for the Whites if they want to sign him on a permanent transfer.

Ao Tanaka has been impressive but is untested in the Premier League, making Phillips' arrival a no-brainer if the Peacocks can find an affordable solution for his return.
