Junior Firpo makes Leeds United transfer admission in new summer verdict
Leeds United defender Junior Firpo has admitted the Whites could do with a “few more additions” before the transfer window slams shut.
Daniel Farke has added to his squad following last season’s playoff defeat, with the likes of Joe Rodon, Joe Rothwell and Jayden Bogle all arriving to bolster the first-team ranks ahead of the new campaign.
However, with both Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville exiting Elland Road, Firpo believes the Whites could benefit from some new arrivals, despite believing that Leeds are in a strong position.
As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post (5 August) he said: “I’m pretty sure we’re in a much stronger position as last season when we were at this stage.
“If you could see today the team that we put on the pitch if you could see this bench that we’ve got. Obviously, we maybe need a few more additions to have that depth that last season was so important in some moments when we were tired when some players were injured.
“But I’m really sure we’re in a really good, strong position to start the season and try to win as many games as possible.”
Are Leeds United close to any new signings in the transfer window?
It is clear that everyone from the top to bottom of Leeds United knows that Farke’s side could do with a few more additions in the coming weeks if they are to have a genuine shot at automatic promotion this term.
The Whites have lost arguably their best two players from last year’s campaign, as well as Glen Kamara, and while their recruitment has been good so far, there are still some gaps to fill throughout the playing squad.
Replacing Summerville is a must and appears to be a priority between now and the end of the transfer window, but one new signing alone is unlikely to be enough to replace the division’s player of the season in the long run.
Hopefully, Farke gets the targets he wants to sign through the door sooner rather than later with the new season now only a matter of days away.
The Whites were held back slightly by a slow start last season and the same cannot be true again.
