Junior Firpo exit talks progress as £4.2m Leeds United transfer news emerges

Real Betis are in negotiations with Leeds United to sign Junior Firpo, according to Mucho Deporte.

The Spanish outlet reported on 19 July that the La Liga side are “making process” in talks to sign the 27-year-old.

The Dominican Republic international has a market value of £4.2million and is entering the final year of his contract at Elland Road.

Betis are working on a “feasible” loan deal but the termination of Firpo’s contract “can not be ruled out”.

Junior Firpo could leave Leeds United for Real Betis

There is an existing relationship between the Whites and Betis after transfers for Diego Llorente and Marc Roca have been completed this summer already.

This could result in this deal being sped up if Daniel Farke wants to move the full-back on after a year in the Championship.

The former Barcelona defender moved to Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa and was part of the side that was relegated to the second tier.

Firpo featured across just 33 appearances in all competitions last season [FotMob] with Sam Byram and Connor Roberts also featuring at left-back.

It has to be said that, when featuring, the 27-year-old has a positive impact on the Leeds side and shouldn’t be let go for nothing.

A loan or free transfer wouldn’t make sense from the Whites’ point of view as they would need to sign a replacement option.

Leeds United defender Connor Roberts
Connor Roberts was on loan at Leeds United last season.

Another left-back option, Roberts has also departed Elland Road at the end of his loan so defensive options are light for Farke moving into the new season.

Leeds open their season against Portsmouth on 10 August and will be hopeful of having a strong side available by then.

In other Leeds news, Paul Robinson says the club may need to sell another player to afford Jayden Bogle.
