Leeds United will be unable to afford to sign Sheffield United defender Jayden Bogle until more players are sold, Paul Robinson has said.

According to the Daily Mirror [17 July], the two Championship sides are at "loggerheads" over a deal for the 23-year-old full-back this summer, with the Blades wanting £7million.

Despite the player's contract expiring next summer, Leeds' offers are below the club's current asking price for the defender.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson does not believe Bogle will be arriving at Elland Road this summer unless the price decreases or the Whites sell players soon.

"It's a balancing act because that's a big fee for a right-back, isn't it? And he's out of contract next summer. He is only 23 years old, though. He's a very good young player," he said.

"He's very versatile too. He can play right-back, right midfielder, or even tuck into the centre of midfield. Right-back is, obviously, a key area with Luke Ayling leaving for Middlesbrough and Archie Gray joining Tottenham.

"Leeds need to address the position. But can they afford £7million on a right-back when there are other improvements to be made in the team? I don't think so. A lot of Leeds' transfer activity is going to be governed by outgoings, which is unfortunate for the manager."

Leeds United unlikely to address right-back problem with Jayden Bogle

While Bogle is clearly a talented player, having notched three goals in the Premier League last season, Leeds seem unlikely to match the Blades' asking price.

The right-back position is certainly a problem for Daniel Farke heading into the 2024/25 campaign, but a loan deal might be the best route to take if Championship clubs are to want extortionate transfer fees.

Sam Byram looks to be the only player currently at Elland Road capable of occupying the right flank, though he is far more comfortable on the opposite side, as is Junior Firpo.
