Rangers attacker Ryan Kent is “made for” Leeds United, according to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.

Kent, 24, was strongly linked with Leeds last summer when Steven Gerrard confirmed the Premier League club had a bid rejected by Rangers for the ex-Liverpool winger.

Ex-Rangers star Derek Ferguson more recently admitted on Si Ferry’s Open Goal on YouTube that there could be something going on behind the scenes regarding Leeds and Kent.

The Athletic’s Rangers correspondent Campbell has written a special piece focused on Kent and he’s briefly discussed why the winger was wanted by Marcelo Bielsa in West Yorkshire.

Campbell wrote: “[Kent] has explosive pace, he is very two-footed, he can eliminate players, he is versatile. It’s the reason Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United are fond of Kent and made a move to sign him in the summer after winning promotion to the Premier League.

“If there is a player who is made for Leeds’ end-to-end style, it is Kent. That’s why he has come alive in Europe, where there is extra room to manoeuvre.”

Kent going from strength to strength

Kent is definitely having his best season at Rangers.

He’s made 41 appearances in all competitions this season for the Glasgow club, scoring 10 goals and supplying 12 assists in the process.

The English winger was in superb form last Thursday in Rangers’ last match against Royal Antwerp as he scored and assisted goals in the Gers’ 5-2 Europa League win over the Belgian side at Ibrox.

According to stats by Wyscout, Kent has averaged more one-v-one dribbles per 90 minutes [8.14] than any other player in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Only Celtic’s Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard have had more shots at goal than the former Liverpool player, who also ranks first in the league for deep completions, which is when a pass is made into the danger zone around the penalty area.

Kent is a bundle of energy. He’s someone who doesn’t stop running and when at full pelt, he’s almost impossible for defenders to keep up with.

He can cut in from the left, connect with fellow attackers and either create or finish off chances.

It’s no shock Bielsa wanted him last summer and it wouldn’t be a shock if he wanted him again this year.

In other Leeds United news, there’s been an update on Leeds’ pursuit of this English left-back.
